Eric Lamaze/HICKSTEAD (CAN), the reigning Olympic Champion from Beijing, won the Rolex FEI World Cup 2008 by beating the Swiss rider Steve Guerdat/JALISCA SOLIER and the German star-rider Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum & SHUTTERFLY in a closely fought round against the clock. Riding on his twelve-year old, Hickstead, Lamaze came in at a time when Meredith (GER) and Marcus Ehning (GER) were looking to make this final an all-German affair. Meredith found herself leading after pipping Marcus on time. Unfazed by this challenge and happy to be greeted by the cheering crowd, Lamaze made the best of enthusiasm in the air. There was no stopping his galloping Hickstead. Steve came in next amid roaring crowds standing on their feet to welcome the local hero. Not making the same move as Meredith in turning inside-out, Steve gained fraction of seconds and ended second, behind Lamaze. In the press conference Steve joked about Hickstead and Shutterfly being too tough on him. The much famous Shutterfly has now over $1.5 million as career prize money to her name.
